A Great Homage and Holds up in Salt Water

After putting in a few Pacific ocean miles and years on my M.R.M.W. Elgin style Buships watch, here is my review: I was looking for a backup to my winding original Buships and Zeno reproduction, neither of which were ever getting near the water again. I learned the hard way about trying to use vintage watches even for surface swimming. This was reenforced by a jeweler in New Orleans, who told me the older the watch the more frail they would be and only use them for special occasions. In December 2023, I paid $324 for the M.R.M.W. reproduction watch on eBay from Japan, and I’ve used it for dressier occasions over the years. The luminescence is ok, but I would not trust it at depth or the middle of the night. Recently, I found M.R.M.W.’s website and ordered the Buships Black Ops watch and saw the Elgin style model for $138 US. I decided to get both as well as the small second hand Buships watch all three for slightly more than the 2023 watch for a test. When I had the new watch, I took the old one out swimming in the ocean. I made sure the canteen crown was screwed down tight! It works great and will be a historic homage to old teammates on swim-outs.

A little cracker

First class representation of the A-17 specification. Spot on 32mm case size which is beautifully machined on the bezel and back. An imposing knurled crown makes setting the time and hacking a smooth operation. A clean accurate dial which has a patina giving the appearance of the original vintage pieces. The hand set makes for easy time reading through the domed crystal. Fitted Ronda quartz movement is keeping good time, 5 second gain over the two weeks since receiving the watch. So light on the wrist you hardly now it's there. I've fitted mine on the MRMW single pass period accurate green cloth strap.

Fantastic value for money from an excellent company which was very helpful and quick to respond to email inquiries. My delivery to the U.K was 5 days from ordering.

My only point of note is that the lume could be a little brighter.

Do your research, you won't beat the spec on this homage.

Classy Homage Small Case Dive Watch

Many years ago, J. Peterman produced a reproduction of a World War I Navy Diver’s watch. I loved the style (small black case, Arabic numbers with black leather band). I could afford a larger Rolex, Omega, Panerai or similar dive watch but with the small size, the J. Peterman reproduction was my go-to dress up watch though proved to be fairly fragile. Since that time, I have acquired a real canteen crown BUSHIPS watch as well as a Zeno reproduction and an M.R.M.W. BUSHIPS E series reproduction. The BUSHIPS BLACKOPS with black band is fairly similar to the J. Peterman watch. I’ve had your BUSHIPS E series reproduction for a few years and ordered another to test in the ocean. I’ll give you a review of that experiment in the future. Many thanks for producing a classic dive watch with modern guts at an attractive price.

Absolutely love this timepiece and relic of history. I have smaller wrists and the 32mm case diameter plus the giant canteen crown guard is the perfect balance so it wears really well. Totally unique and you will stand out from the crowd with it. I have already gotten many compliments and questions about it while wearing it. Definitely a conversation starter for sure. I love the watch so much that it inspired me to finally start my own watch channel on TikTok "LeTempsDuLuop"

I had often seen M.R.M.W. watches in advertisements and had been considering a purchase. This time I finally went for it.

I'm very glad I did. The watch is carefully made, with quality that looks beyond its price, and the best part is that I don't see other people wearing the same watch.

I wondered whether the size would be too small, but I really like being able to wear it almost like an accessory.

On the downside, for a watch adapted for modern use, I would have liked sapphire crystal and an anti-reflective coating, even at a slightly higher price.

The workmanship is very careful, so I'd like to buy another model too.

Excellent reproduction of the original prototype. Size and markings are near perfect. Functionality, is vastly improved with the quartz movement. The main fault of these watches originally was the inacuraccy of the mechanical movement. With the quartz movement it's steady within a +/-1 second in month. This makes the original elapsed time function an actual tool. The dials on the side are easy to use with the watch on the wrist, which makes calculations a breeze! This is an honest and faithful update to a unique watch design that has been lost to history. It keeps true to the look and vintage feel while updating the technology where it counts. Wonderful watch please keep these in stock. Will buy again!

This watch was surprisingly comfortable for me on my wrist. I was planning to wear it as a pocket watch but the lightness on the wrist makes it comfortable in watch form. I was hesitant to purchase this watch when it was first released due to the handset being different from that of the Bulova. But there is an example in existence with this exact set of hands. I went ahead and ordered this watch still being on the fence. Now that I have this watch in hand I have not regrets. The inner rotating bezels work flawlessly and this watch has been so well created it's a shame Bulova couldn't do the same. I think MRMW should do a second model with the cathedral hands we are all accustomed to. If they did I would still buy both as the recreation of the example watch they used gives it character. Home Run!!

The case details are wonderful—among the best 32mm replicas. The accurate recreation of the dial and hour and minute hands gives it a precision that makes it feel like a real instrument rather than a toy. However, the seconds hand was misaligned during assembly, so I plan to have it corrected later. Long 28cm NATO straps in 16mm are hard to find. If there isn't one, I'll make one. Now I want the black dial too; I plan to buy it without telling my wife. I've already bought 16mm nylon webbing and a VH31 separately.

This is great watch! it is well made and very nice looking. It is a small watch at 32mm so you might need your reading glasses to read it. Also it has no lume at all. Aside from the small dial the watch is very legible. i recommend grabbing an extra strap with your order as 16mm straps for men are hard to find. Great watch!

Nice watch. I did not realize at first that this is a 24 hour watch so the hands move differently. So once I figured out how to set and read it it functions perfectly. The band was small for my larger sized wrist, I did find a WW2 surplus band which fit perfectly. The band it came with was better quality but barely fit. So far a nice watch delivered with no issues to the USA all the way from Japan. The watch did come with a NATO strap also which I did not try as I preferred this style.
